11th September 2013 - During a routine inspection

People told us that they were treated with dignity and respect. One person said, "They [staff] listen and are very caring. If you want the [privacy] curtains shutting they will. It’s marvellous.”

People who used the service told us they were happy with the care and treatment they received on the unit. One person told us "It’s very good. They [staff] have been absolutely superb, wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble. Staff come round every few minutes to see I’m ok and if I want anything. Absolutely marvellous, really good. They [staff] come and talk to you, very good.”

The provider had enough equipment to promote the independence and comfort of people who used the service.

The provider had a satisfactory recruitment and selection procedure in place to ensure that staff were appropriately employed.

The provider had a system in place to deal with comments and complaints. People who used the service could be confident that their comments and complaints were listened to.

27th September 2012 - During a routine inspection

People told us that staff explained all the procedures and treatments to them and respected their decisions about their treatment and care. One person said “Everything was explained, it put me at ease.”

People who used the service told us they were happy with the care and treatment they received on the unit. One person told us "It has been a wonderful experience, everything happened when it should have happened."

We found people received care and treatment in a clean environment with infection control measures in place to minimise the risk of infection. People we spoke with told us the unit was always clean and tidy. One person we spoke with said, "Top marks, I can’t be critical. The nurse's were always washing their hands, whenever they touch something they wash their hands straight after.”

We saw that staff spent one-to-one time with people and observed lots of positive communication and interaction. We also saw that staff were observant and responded quickly when people needed support. People told us “They (the staff) are so friendly” and are “Knowledgeable and approachable.”

The provider had an appropriate system in place for gathering, recording and evaluating information about the quality and safety of care the service provides. People who used the service and their representatives were asked for their views about their care and treatment.
