19th October 2011 - During an inspection in response to concerns pdf icon

We visited this location in October 2011. We did this because concerns had been expressed about the management of medicines within the trust at a variety of different locations. We asked the provider for information which was sent to us in November 2011 and February 2012. We also met with representatives from the trust to discuss the information provided. We spoke with people using the service at Victoria Hospital, Wimborne and we spoke with medical staff.

We spoke with two people who were in the waiting area of the minor injuries unit. They spoke very highly of the treatment they received and the support from staff. They told us they felt involved in decisions about their treatment. They told us they knew what action was being taken and what would happen next.

We spoke with one person on the ward about their experiences with medicines whilst they were in hospital. They told us that they received their medicines when they were needed and that the staff were helpful.

We watched some medicines being given to people at lunchtime and saw that they were given in a friendly and safe way. Staff spent time encouraging people to take their medicines in the right way.
