3rd January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with five people attending appointments at the service and two accompanying relatives. People told us that they were happy with the service that they were provided with and would recommend the service to others. One person told us, “I’ve been coming here donkey years, must be a good dentist I’ve still got all my teeth.”

With their permission we accompanied three people during their consultation and treatment. We also observed the interaction between staff and people who used the service when they arrived for their appointments and left the service. We saw that the staff interacted with people in a friendly, respectful and professional manner.

People told us they felt respected by staff and were fully involved in the decisions about their dental care and treatment. One person described the dentist as, “Very thorough and explains everything well…actually takes the time to talk to you.”

People told us that they had confidence in the staff’s knowledge and abilities. Where they had contacted the service with a dental emergency, they told us that they were seen within a timely manner.

People told us that the waiting and treatment areas were always clean and tidy. This was confirmed by what we saw during our inspection.

We found robust recruitment procedures in place and staff received training and support to safely carry out their role.

We found the service was well led and had effective systems in place to monitor the standard of care provided.
