23rd January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

When we visited the centre we spoke with the practice manager, one orthodontist, two therapists and three specialist nurses with specialist orthodontic training, and the practice receptionist.

We were able to speak with patients and their parents in the waiting room to obtain direct feedback about the service. We found the service was well led by the practice manager and we heard positive comments from everyone who spoke with us. People told us “this is a good place to come”, and “I am very happy to come here.” People told us the centre was flexible with appointments and they kept to time. Parents told us “my child has to take time off school to attend but they know that and make sure appointments are on time.” Staff also told us “this is a good place to work; we are supported to provide the highest standards of care.”

We saw the service was safe and had appropriate arrangements in place to promote the well-being of both the people who used the service and staff who worked there. We read assessments had been completed before treatment and progress was monitored. We heard from one person “it is always clean and tidy here” and “I am able to ask questions.”

We read feedback from people who used the service which told us the service had been effective. We saw people were educated about their treatment in order to promote the best outcome. We were told “I was shown how to clean my teeth when I had my brace and if I have any problems the staff are able to advise me.” We observed people were advised about post treatment routines and the use of dental retainers.
