17th April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

On the day of the inspection we found the surgery to be clean and tidy. The surgery was very busy but staff were very polite and maintained people's privacy. They offered an area of privacy for people who requested it.

The reception area had information for people about the different types of treatment available and pictures of pre and post dental treatment to help inform people. Children were encouraged to practice good oral hygiene and information was provided to parents on how to do this.

One person said "I have been coming here for over 25 years, when it was another dentist I was very happy and my new dentist is nice and I’ve kept coming back." People told us they got a reminder every six months for a check up. We observed that people were not being made to wait before being seen for their appointment.

People's treatment plans were kept up to date and medical information was checked at each visit when they saw the dentist.

Staff followed infection control procedures to ensure there was no risk of cross infection of instruments or between people using the service.

Staff were supported in their role and maintained their continuing professional development as required by their professional body the General Dental Council.
