31st July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with the dentist, the practice manager and five patients. We consulted the practice's policies and procedures, six sets of patients' records and staff files.

We found patients were respected and involved in their care. A patient told us, "Everything is clearly explained, I have time to think about my options before anything goes ahead".

We found that patients' needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their care plan. Another patient told us, "We get truly excellent care".

We found that the practice co-operated effectively with other providers. The dentist referred patients appropriately to specialists and dental hospitals after consultation with their patients. The practice ensured there was adequate after-care.

We found that a robust safeguarding policy and procedures were in place. Staff were competent concerning safeguarding procedures. The relevant training was scheduled for a newly recruited member of staff.

We saw the service maintained high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the premises. Staff told us, "We decontaminate the area after each patient with great care and attention". One patient told us, "The practice is always quite spotless really".

The service had an effective system of audits concerning every aspect of the practice, an incident reporting system and a complaint policy with clear procedures. Patients' views were sought to identify how the service could improve.
