19th May 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

This inspection was carried out to see if improvements had been made following our inspection of 09 December 2013.

During this inspection, we spoke with the registered manager. We did not speak with patients using the service.

We found the provider had systems in place to gain feedback from patients using the service. The feedback was displayed for patients using the service to read. Action, where necessary, was taken following the feedback. This information was also displayed, so patients were aware of what action had been taken. Regular audits were undertaken to assess and monitor the service provided. The results of the audits were discussed in the monthly staff meetings and action plans were developed to ensure the service made continuous improvements.

We found that patients’ care records were kept securely in lockable cupboards behind the reception desk.

9th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We carried out this inspection to check on the care and welfare of people using this service. Our visit was discussed and arranged in two days in advance to ensure that we had time to see and speak to staff working at the practice, as well as people registered with the service.

People said they were involved in decisions about their care and the dentist was very good at explaining any treatment. People told us the dentist gave them information about the options available and the costs were explained. One person told us, “They explain everything to me so I have all the information I need to make my decision.”

Treatment could be arranged at a convenient time, and people told us they did not experience any lengthy delays.

People we spoke with told us that they were happy with the service and were complimentary about the staff. One person told us, “This is the only dentist I’ve kept coming back to. They have been superb and understand how anxious I get.”

The provider had systems in place to gain feedback from people using the service although feedback about any comments or improvements was not provided to people using the service. Regular checks were undertaken to assess and monitor the service provided although any concerns identified were not actioned to ensure the service made continuous improvements.

The storage of some records needed improvement to ensure all personal information was kept secure and confidential.
